Roost, an alchemist who specialized in basic research, had his budget for the upcoming fiscal year reduced to zero by the guild bureaucrats who lacked an understanding of his work. Realizing that there was no future for him at the Alchemist Guild, Roost made the decision to quit. What the guild failed to realize was that Roost was the world’s foremost alchemist and his materials were unparalleled in quality, and nobody else could replicate them. Following his resignation, the guild descended into chaos, but it was too late to address the situation. Roost found himself liberated from the limitations of his old workplace and chose to spend his time and energy creating new alchemy at a comfortable pace on the frontier.
